The Most Important Thing About Me
Ultimately, I care much more about your soul than selling real estate. C.S Lewis said this:
“There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations – these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub and exploit – immortal horrors or everlasting splendors. This does not mean that we are to be perpetually solemn. We must play. But our merriment must be of that kind (and it is, in fact, the merriest kind) which exists between people who have, from the outset, taken each other seriously – no flippancy, no superiority, no presumption.”
He’s talking about the fact that we all have a soul that will live forever. We all know this isn’t all there is….it can’t be. The bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:11 that God has put eternity in our hearts!
We all have a sense of what’s right and wrong deep inside us and we all have a longing in our hearts for something more than this world has to offer. Especially these days….this world is getting more turbulent and chaotic by the minute. How can we make sense of it all?
I believe there is objective truth and it’s found in the Bible. I believe there is a God. One true living God. It’s what the tried and true Scriptures teach. They were written over 1500 years by as many as 40 different authors from different times and different walks of life and yet they all fit together as one. It’s remarkable, and while I accept them by faith they also make far more sense than the answers this world has to offer.
I cherish any opportunity I have to share the truth with you about how you can be saved and made right with the one true living God. If you have any questions about this please feel free to contact me. Many people today know bits and pieces of the Bible but have no clear, concise understanding of what the Bible teaches. The following is a simple summary of the main message of the Bible.
1. GOD: WHO HE IS = There is a God who deserves to be glorified.
“Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture,” (Psalm 100:3). “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect,” (Matthew 5:48). (See Acts 17:24-27)
The Bible explains that God created us and sustains us and therefore has the right to absolute authority over our lives. He made us in His image so that we would seek to know Him and glorify Him with our lives (i.e. love Him, honor Him, obey Him, and serve Him).
2. MAN: OUR PROBLEM = Man refuses to glorify God and deserves to be punished.
“The Lord looked down from heaven upon the sons of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God….There is none who understands, there is none who seeks for God…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God….the wages of sin is death” (Ps. 14:2; Rom. 3:11, 23; 6.23).
Instead of seeking to know and glorify God, we naturally rebel against His authority over us and choose to live our own way. The Bible says that failing to honor and obey God is sin. The just penalty for our sin is death; not just physical death, but eternal separation from God in hell.
3. JESUS: GOD’S SOLUTION = Jesus Christ died and rose from the dead so we can be saved.
“For while we were still helpless…God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God” (Rom. 5:6, 8-9).
Because of His great love, God has provided a way for us to be rescued from hell. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin. Jesus endured the punishment that we deserve and rose again to prove that God’s wrath had been satisfied and God’s justice had been served, making it possible for God to forgive us and offer us eternal life.
4. YOU: THE RESPONSE = The command to repent and believe in Jesus Christ must be obeyed.
“Seek the Lord while He may be found…Let the wicked forsake His way…and let him return to the Lord, and He will have compassion on him….He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him” (Isa. 55:6-7; Jn. 3:36).
God simply requires us to turn from our sinful rebellion against Him and trust in the death and resurrection of His Son as the only way to be reconciled to Him. We must admit we are sinners who are separated from God, believe that we are forgiven through faith alone in the finished work of Christ, and commit our entire life to obey Him as our Savior and Lord.
Do you understand these four basic truths that the Bible teaches? Have you applied them to your life? If you have not, ask God to help you to understand these truths and to enable you to turn from your sinful way of life and trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. When He answers you, tell someone about it, read the Bible and pray to God every day, and find a church where you can learn more about the Bible and grow in your relationship with God.
